More and more of us are looking for fun, sociable ways to keep fit or even lose a bit of weight. Arguably one of the most pleasant and accessible forms of exercise is cycling, and where better to do it than in the beautiful surrounding of Suffolk.

Lowestoft, Southwold, Walberswick and Dunwich are just some of popular cycling locations that Suffolk has to offer. One of the best things about cycling in Suffolk is the variety of terrain. Whether you’re looking for soft, undulating countryside rides, or the steep, hellish inclines are your cup of tea, Suffolk offers it all.

A couple of notable mentions in the Suffolk cycling scene include the mountain biking at Thetford Forest, which offers a mix of bridle paths and rougher terrain, allowing to test the full capabilities of your mountain bike. The Dunwich Dynamo is perhaps the highlight of the Suffolk cycling calendar. The event began in 1992 and since then has grown to attract almost 1500 riders. Staring in London, the overnight ride ends up on the lovely beaches of Suffolk’s own Dunwich. The Beccles Cycle for Life and is another event worth noting and the cycling Tour of Britain usually visits East Anglia around September time.

Whether you’re a novice or a spandex toting professional, Suffolk provides a fantastic location for cyclists of all competencies and ages.

  • About The Suffolk Byre

The property was once home for cattle owned by the local farm, and this is why we decided to rename it The Byre. The barns were established in the early 1800's. We bought the land and the barns in 1990 and have been working on it since, to make it the beautiful home it is now.
  • Location

Perfectly situated within easy reach of Beccles our main town, and close to the coastline of Southwold and Lowestoft, The Byre is a great base for your stay in the tranquil Suffolk countryside.
  • The local area

Suffolk is a non-metropolitan county of historic origin in East Anglia, England. It has borders with Norfolk to the north, Cambridgeshire to the west and Essex to the south. Beccles is an historic market town that boasts a variety of natural amenities, including the river Waveney.
